CONDITION REPORTS

Not sure what your painting needs?
A condition report is the right place to start. I examine the work thoroughly — identifying cracks, paint losses, canvas deformation, water damage — and document its state in a clear written report.
This gives you a complete picture of what you have, what it needs, and what options exist, before any commitment to treatment.
I also carry out condition reports for artworks on loan, with records taken before and after transport or exhibition.

CONSOLIDATION

Flaking or lifting paint is a sign that a painting needs urgent attention.
I use appropriate consolidants to secure the paint layer back to its support, stabilising the work and preventing further loss.
Early intervention is key — consolidation can save details that would otherwise be lost permanently.

SURFACE CLEANING

Decades of dust, grime, and environmental deposits can dramatically dull a painting's colours and obscure its original detail.
Cleaning is one of the most visually striking treatments — when done carefully, it reveals the painting as it was intended to be seen.
I work methodically and test at every stage to ensure the paint layer beneath is fully protected.

VARNISH REMOVAL

Old varnish yellows and clouds over time, giving paintings a brownish, flat look that masks their true palette.
Removing aged varnish — and applying a fresh, stable layer — can be transformative, restoring contrast, depth, and luminosity that has been hidden for years.

TEAR MENDING

A tear in a canvas can look alarming, but in skilled hands it is repairable with minimal trace.

Using the thread-by-thread tear mending technique, I carefully reweave the canvas fibres to restore structural integrity — avoiding lining where possible, and preserving as much original material as the work allows.

RETOUCHING

Paint losses and abraded areas break the visual continuity of a work and draw the eye away from what should be there.

I reintegrate these areas using reversible media, matched carefully to the surrounding original — making the damage invisible without ever touching what is genuine. Every intervention is documented and fully reversible.

FRAME CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION

A damaged or degraded frame diminishes the whole work.

I treat frames as an integral part of the artwork — stabilising loose gilding, consolidating gesso, and retouching losses so that the frame once again does its job: protecting the painting and presenting it at its best.

COURIER SERVICE

Transporting a valuable or fragile painting carries real risk — to its surface, its structure, and its insurance value.
I provide hand-carry and courier services for works in transit, accompanying paintings to and from exhibitions, auctions, conservation studios, or private collections, with full condition checks before departure and on arrival. Having a trained conservator oversee the journey means any change in condition is caught immediately, and handled by someone who understands exactly what's at stake.
