Workshop on Conservation Techniques at Tokyo Geidai

In July 2025, I was invited as a Guest Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai).
During the session, I taught the single thread bonding technique under the microscope, first demonstrating the process and then guiding participants as they practiced it themselves.

Participants prepared and tested several conservation adhesives — including sturgeon glue with wheat starch, EVA with methyl cellulose, and polyamide textile welding powder — applying them on test canvases and later on an actual painting.
In the afternoon, I introduced a range of materials and methods used for dry cleaning in painting conservation, demonstrating their application and assisting participants in hands-on exercises with micro-cleaning products (MCP).
